1) Why did you decide to become a host family?

My children were 8 & 9 years old at the time, and I thought, since I don’t come from a big family, I would like to meet students from around the world, to increase my family, and learn about other cultures. My children have grown up with students in the house. They are now 18 and 19 years old, and we have had over 60 students stay with us from 4 weeks to 6 months at a time. We keep in contact with lots of them via Facebook and Skype, and we have made long life friends. Oh and our labrador has also grown up with students! (Kara)

2) Which activities your family enjoy doing with the international students you host?

Showing our students everything “aussie”….. We love introducing them to vegemite, lamingtons, tim tams, pavlova, and spend many dinners talking about there home, where they live, and information about their surrounding suburbs, sharing pictures. Also trips to Manly Beach are enjoyable. Sometimes we have reunion with previous students. The other night we all played UNO, and before that we had a game of scrabble, it was fun!
